Aoraki Mount Cook – NZ’s Hidden Gem
Friday, July 12th, 2013
At Air Milford we offer a unique Southern Alps Discovery Tour, to the Mount Cook region.
The Southern Alps Discovery tour takes you on an exhilarating journey of adventure. Enjoy flights over lake Wanaka, Hawea, Ohau and Pukaki before landing at your destinations of Mt Cook and Milford Sound.
Your day starts with a pick up from your accommodation and transfer to Queenstown airport to board your flight for your first destination: Mount Cook. Upon landing we transfer into a ski plane for a glacier landing on the Tasman Glacier, where you can take a walk on the glacier and enjoy some photo opportunities.
After your glacier experience you will be taken to The Sir Edmund Hillary Centre. A tribute to Sir Edmund Hillary, humanitarian, ambassador and one of the world’s greatest explorers, the centre showcases the Aoraki Mount Cook region, its people and its place in the universe.
The Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre’s 126-seat custom-designed theatre is the world’s only theatre with 2D, 3D and world-class definition Digital Dome Planetarium, contained within the same space. It is here that you will enjoy a beautiful lunch with the most perfect view of Mt Cook.
Your next destination is Milford Sound via the West Coast where we land, take a short bush walk, and enjoy a photo opportunity. Milford Sound welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and is justifiably the most famous visitor destination in New Zealand.
You then fly back to Queenstown, with scenic highlights being the Sutherland Waterfalls (highest in the Southern Hemisphere), the famous Milford Track, and Lakes Te Anau & Wakatipu. To complete your Southern Alps discovery tour, a courtesy shuttle is provided for transfers back to your accommodation.
